AMRA/KoM WRS at Elkins Speedway in 2008!

Apple Grove, WV. December 11, 2007
Elkins Speedway is under new management for 2008. Wayne Feathers, father of Late Model stand out Bo Feathers, has signed a 5 year deal to operate Elkins Motor Speedway just off highway 219 near Elkins, WV. Feathers also has an option to buy the speedway and has plans to complete that purchase in the future.

As his first order of business, Feathers held a drivers meeting at the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department on Dec. 2. where the drivers overwhelmingly requested to return to the American Motor Racing Association sanctioning for their Open Wheel Modified's for 2008.

The AMRA provides Modified drivers in our region with a handsome $32,000 points fund and a healthy helping of contingencies from series advertising partners. Drivers, crews, employees, and families of all AMRA sanctioned tracks and series are also eligible for $50,000 of medical coverage through K&K Insurance, a motor sports insurer. In the 15 years of the AMRA's existence over $500,000 in cash and prizes have been awarded to some of our region's most prolific weekend warriors.

The Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series Steel Block/ Crate Late Models , hailed as the “Knights of the Round Track“, who have also come under the AMRA banner, were represented by Regional Director, Rocky Estep, who later came to a 3 year agreement with Feathers to sanction both the Modified's and the Steel Block/Crate Late Models with the AMRA and the Suddenlink KoM WRS. “Our goal is to increase the FUN factor for our drivers and provide awesome racing for our fans. We also bring to the table more exposure for our weekly sanctioned tracks, drivers, and sponsors through our advertising agreement with series title partner Suddenlink Communications which provides unparalleled cable TV, internet service, and phone service to our region. Together we can carry on the rich tradition of spectacular grassroots racing in the Appalachian and Ohio Valley regions.” (www.Suddenlink.com)

Wayne Feathers has many improvements underway at the track and plans to be racing by late March. “I am risking my construction business of 31 years to run this track,” stated Feathers. “We are going to update this facility and create an “at home” atmosphere where families and friends can come together every week and comfortably enjoy the thrill of great racing and have a wonderful time.”

Some examples of some of the FUN planned at Elkins Speedway includes a bicycle give away by Feather's and Sons Construction every single week this season! There will be after race cook outs, bike races for the kids, candy tosses, trackside autograph sessions, race car ride-alongs, and more!
